The ACA has been calling on British Waterways and the Environment Agency to make it possible for salmon to pass through the Tees Barrage without impediment for many years. Thousands of fish each year are eaten by seals before they are able to negotiate the fish pass and head to their spawning grounds.
The barrage and associated predation by seals have been acknowledged by all parties as a serious threat to salmon stocks on the Tees for many years now and yet the latest announcement of progress was the launch of a three year study into the passage of fish through the barrage. The ACA is outraged that more urgency is not being displayed with this very serious issue.
Please sign our petition now to urge Fisheries Minister Jonathan Shaw to force the EA and BW to deliver a workable solution that enables fish to pass through the barrage without hindrance.
